Wades Farm Application Rejected!

I am delighted to report that Stroud District Council Development Committee have followed the planners recommendation and have unanimously rejected the plans by Barratts to build at Wades Farm.

Can I thank everyone for your support, including the SSUD committee, the members of the SSUD who helped deliver leaflets, the members who manned the stall in Stroud, The Summerstreet Residents Association and the many people who supplied photographs to us, including Alex Caminades.  Can I also thank those who sent to us lots of idea, which were very useful in our defence.  If I have missed anyone off this list, please accept my apologies, but our thanks go to you as well!

Here is breaking news from Stroud New and Journal.  Further reports will be in Stroud Life and also the Sunday Times this week-end.

We do expect Barratts to appeal against this decision, but rest assured, we will fight them all the way!

A call to arms!

Following Barratts public consultation into the Wades Farm development, a massive 95% of the people who returned the questionnaires to Barratts said that they did not want this development to go ahead - the reaction from Barratts?  The full planning application has just been received!
Please see details below on how to object to the planning application and if anyone needs help with this, please let us know.  Please remember that everyone in your household can email or write a letter to Stroud District Council (SDC) and if you have any friends who aren't local, but who feel strongly about this, they can also write into SDC.  Your emails and letters are very important in the campaign to defeat this development!  If Barratts manage to break through into the AONB, then other areas in the Slad Valley will be vulnerable including Grange Fields and the fields alongside Folly Lane.
PLEASE HELP TO STOP THE
DEVELOPMENT OF HOUSES AT WADES FARM

On Swifts Hill

"When I saw the photograph taken from Swifts Hill posted on 15 February, this poem, written last week, seemed destined to join it!" Sheila Maddock 2011

ON SWIFTS HILL

Wildlife haven, place for picnics, Swifts Hill
Guards the gateway to Slad. Here you can gaze
Miles to the silver ribbon of Severn,
Plunge through beech woods to the valley below,
From the hummocky top hear skylarks sing,
Watch kestrels hover, housemartins soar and
Swifts swoop as they circle their feeding ground.

Underfoot is a carpet of flowers,
Orchids and other rare species, food for
Once common butterflies, moths and bees,
All dependent on this ancient grassland,
Fed by minerals in its limestone bed.

Farms in the quiet valley below doze
Unsuspecting in their patchwork fields, while
In the hazy east, suburban Stroud snakes
Voraciously towards Wades Farm - and Slad.

The people we are up against....

Barratts claim that their development, on this site, will enhance
the wild life habitat is under investigation by the Advertising
Standards Authority.

The proposed development will be built in the AONB field that is half way up the line of the existing houses and will jut into the green belt area.  The new houses will be clearly seen from Swifts Hill
